LHU Women’s Soccer knocks off Edinboro

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (2-1, 2-1 PSAC) used an early goal just 13 seconds into the match to fuel the Bald Eagles passed Edinboro University (1-3, 0-3 PSAC) 3-1 Saturday at the Stern Athletic Complex to move to 2-1 on the season and 2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
The Bald Eagles jumped out to an early lead only 13 seconds into the competition when forward Marah Foltz (Mountfield, Pa./Hempfield) took the ball off of a defender and rocketed a shot past Edinboro keeper Anna Voelker.
Edinboro evened the score in the 28th minute when Brittnie Spithaler picked up a loose ball and finished a shot to the far post.
Tied 1-1 at halftime after a tightly contested first half, Lock Haven took the lead in the 52nd minute when Haley Predix (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) found a ball in the middle of the field and picked out an open Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) who finished a shot low past the keeper.
Not long after in the 53rd minute, Haleigh Swam (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was on a run when she was taken down inside the box earning a penalty. She converted the penalty kick for the Bald Eagles, making the score 3-1.
Lock Haven out shot Edinboro 21-13. Foltz lead the way with six shots for the Bald Eagles. Swam and Lauren Tubay (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) each recorded 4 shots.
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) made five saves, and was solid throughout the whole match, directing a solid showing from the LHU defense.
Lock Haven will travel to Bloomsburg for their next game on Wednesday, September 12 with the kickoff set for 5 p.m.
