Swam powers LHU Women’s Soccer past Shippensburg

LOCK HAVEN – Haleigh Swam (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) scored twice as the Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (4-2-1, 4-2-1, PSAC) topped Shippensburg (5-2,4-2, PSAC) 2-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

In the 29th minute, Swam knocked home the ball for the 1-0 lead. Ella Jones (Mohnton, Pa./Reading Area C.C.) was credited with the assist on the goal. Later, in the 73rd minute Swam collected a through ball from Gabby Kishbaugh (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to the far post.

The Bald Eagles outshot Shippensburg 23-6 and held the majority of the possession throughout the game, and once they went up by two there was no looking back as they powered to the finish.

In the middle of the pitch, play was dominated by Jones who consistently cut out passes and looked to play dangerous balls forward.

Defensively, the Bald Eagles completed the clean sheet behind a stout effort led by Janelle Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) and Jordan Shoff (York, Pa./York Suburban). Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) was called upon for two saves to preserve her shutout.

LHU will return to action on Saturday, September 29 when the Bald Eagles head to Gannon for a 3 p.m. PSAC match.
