Basketball: Wildcats defeat Selinsgrove on road, 49-44

The Central Mountain Wildcats picked up their second victory of the season with a 49-44 road win against the Selinsgrove Seals Tuesday night.

“We had a slow start but had a good response in the second half,” CM coach Tyler Bardo Said. “I remain confident in our abilities as a team when we put things together. These 17 players have every reason to remain positive as long as they’re willing to commit to the work ahead.”

After an even 9-9 first quarter, the Wildcats’ offense lagged behind the Seals as CM entered intermission down 24-15.

Following halftime adjustments the Wildcats exited the locker room focused and rejuvenated. In the third they outscored Selinsgrove, 18-12, to cut the Seals’ lead, 36-33, entering the final period.

In the fourth Central Mountain doubled Selinsgrove’s point total, 16-8. They trailed by four with just over four minutes remaining in the game but out-scored Selinsgrove, 13-4, in the back half of the quarter to exit with a 49-44 win.

“Tanner Lavelle had some big steals late,” Bardo said. “And JT Pentz had a big lay up following a timeout with under a minute left in the game. [Everybody’s contributions] were needed to grind out the win.”

Five players recorded figures for Central Mountain. Collin Jones led the Wildcats with a team-high 18 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and four steals. Tanner Lavelle notched 12 points and four rebounds, and Conner Soo added 10 points and four steals.

JT Pentz recorded six points and Aidan Major posted another three.

Selinsgrove’s Kolton Elsayed finished the night with a game-high 29 points.
