MILL HALL- The Central Mountain Wildcats recorded their first win of the season with a 67-60 victory over the Shikellamy Braves at home.

“I’m proud of these guys,” Central Mountain coach Tyler Bardo said. “Tonight we found ourselves ahead by 10 entering the fourth, which was exactly the same situation as the DuBois game earlier this season. But this time we were able to leave with a win.”

Collin Jones recorded a double-double as he ended the evening with a team-high 23 points, 12 rebounds and six steals. Teammate Conner Soo chipped in another 17 points.

Central Mountain’s ball security and its defense’s ability to pressure Shikellamy’s offense was the game’s storyline. Central Mountain managed to force 21 turnovers, and committed just eight themselves. Central Mountain was able to take advantage of Shikellamy’s miscues and recorded 31 points off the Braves’ turnovers.

“It was just the energy that we brought to the floor tonight and the constant activity,” CM coach Tyler Bardo said of the forced turnovers. “We played with 100 percent effort and stayed committed on the defensive end.”

Central Mountain jumped out to an early 19-11 first-quarter lead and entered intermission ahead 42-22.

Shikellamy crawled back into the game in the second half. They out-scored CM 22-12 in the third quarter to cut their deficit, 54-44, entering the fourth.

Shikellamy out-scored CM again in the fourth, 16-13, but CM managed to hold on for the close 67-60 win, which was its first victory since a 51-33 win over Bellefonte in the District 6 quarterfinals last season.
