JERSEY SHORE-Hannah Kaufman walked off the court at halftime as her team was locked in tie with Selinsgrove. She knew Jersey Shore needed something big to happen.

She delivered, scoring 13 of her game high 25 points in the third quarter as Jersey Shore pulled away for a 62-52 win over Selinsgrove.

The win moved the Bulldogs two games over .500 while ending a two-game slide at the same time. Shore will travel to Milton next Tuesday to face a team it beat earlier in the season with the hopes of extending the winning to a second game.

Kaufman scored the first eight points of the third quarter for the Bulldogs. She scored by driving down the baseline and getting shots under the basket and scoring in transition.

The Bulldogs were also outstanding on the defensive end throughout the third quarter. They forced Selinsgrove into five turnovers, which helped setup easy baskets for Kaufman in transition.

“When it was tie, we talked to the girls about us not being a very good third quarter team the last four or five games,” Jersey Shore coach Darrin Bischof said. “Whatever I had been saying wasn’t working. We just told them to come out and set the tone and show them we want it a little more at home.”

Kaufman certainly showed that as she finished the eight-minute stretch with 13 points on six-of-seven shooting from the floor. She converted a three-point play when she fouled going up for a shot. She made the attempt and quickly converted the free throw.

“We put the pressure on them and got a couple steals to get right back in it at the start of the third,” Kaufman said. “We were really just trying to prove something to ourselves, because we have been on a losing streak.”

Kaufman proved herself over the third, but Selinsgrove adjusted in the fourth, which allowed other players to step up. Aubrey Stetts, who had a key rebound off a missed free throw in the final minutes of the game, was key over the final eight minutes. She rebounded, but made three of her attempts from the floor. She finished with 10 as did Reba Lorson, who canned a long trey in both the third and fourth quarters. Sadie Griswold was the fourth player in double figures for the Bulldogs. She finished with 11 points and five rebounds.

“Our ball movement was great tonight,” Bischof said. “Aubrey Stetts did a great job of getting to Hannah underneath the basket. We were seeing an extra person and that helped us a lot.”

At 6:45 of the second quarter Griswold connected on a free throw after a basket to give the Bulldogs a 24-17 advantage. Selinsgrove responded with an 8-1 run to get back into the game.

Marley Sprenkle had been shutout in the first quarter, but started to get better looks outside in the second. She hit two threes and got another two.

“We started to knock some shots down in the second,” Selinsgrove coach Tim Lauver said. “Marley started making some shots. Avery (Defanzio) started to make some shots. If fact we picked it up a little bit, but then we went flat there a little bit.”

Selinsgrove played through runs by Jersey Shore, always keeping the game close enough to catchup.

Defanzio finished with 15 points and two rebounds to lead the Seals. She was a big reason they were able to stay close as 11 of her 15 points came over the final two quarters.

“That’s the way it’s been all year,” Lauver said. “We just seem to fight back and get to a certain point. You just fight back for so long and just can’t get over the hump. We just try to get ahead of ourselves a little bit. Just when we get to the point that we’re tie we go down and make a bad pass or send somebody to the line.”
