CM boys basketball drops home contest to Lewisburg, 46-38

The Central Mountain boys basketball team dropped a home contest to the Lewisburg Green Dragons, 46-38. The Wildcats’ record slipped to 4-12 following the loss.

“I think we lacked a lot of emotion and I think we lacked a lot of energy from the start, which carried on the whole way through the game,” Central Mountain coach Tyler Bardo said. “A lot of our timeouts and halftime discussions weren’t a great deal about basketball tonight. The talks were just about trying to find a little bit of energy.”

Just four Wildcats recorded figures for Central Mountain. Collin Jones had a team-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Zane Probst added 13 points and seven rebounds. Tanner Lavelle added four points and Conner Soo managed another two.

Bardo said the offense’s struggles to score up-and-down its lineup could be contributed to a lack of assertiveness.

“I think our guys may be too literal,” Bardo explained. “For example if we say we want to get the ball to a certain spot on the floor, they assume that means only so many guys can have the ball there.Another example is that we passed [the ball] well out of the post, but then we didn’t take advantage of those opportunities.

“I think that we have to understand that our system is all-inconclusive. If you’re an athlete on the floor [you need to know] you’re a possible threat to score. But sometimes we just don’t play like that.”

Lewisburg had five athletes record figures, including Coleman Witherite who scored a game-high 21 points. Despite the loss Bardo was pleased with his defense who surrendered just 46 points– a number low enough for a win on most nights.

“I actually don’t think our defense was too poor,” Bardo said. “Anytime you hold a offense to 46 points you’re normally coming out on the good side of things.”

The loss to Lewisburg occurred on the heels of an exhilarating 57-55 overtime win against Shikellamy on Wednesday. Now sitting at 4-12, Central Mountain returns tonight for a home contest versus Selinsgrove. The Wildcats previously defeated the Seals on Jan. 8, 49-44.

“Selinsgrove is going to be physical,” Bardo said. “They’re going to be tough and they’re young.”
