LHU Softball: Slattery in preseason Player of the Year watch list

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven University Softball’s senior pitcher Bekah Slattery picked up another preseason accolade.

Yesterday Slattery was named to the 2019 Schutt Sports/National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Player of the Year watch list.

The award list consists of 2018 returning NFCA All-Americans and those voted on by the Division II All-America Committee. Slattery featured on the list as a player voted in by the All-American committee. In total, the list contains 50 players from across Division II.

In 2018, Slattery pitched 192.1 innings, which was second best in the PSAC. She racked up 219 strikeouts on the year, the most by any pitcher in the conference. Her 1.60 ERA was second best among qualifiers and a .188 opponents’ batting average was tops in the PSAC. To cap off an incredible season, she threw a no-hitter against Post University on March 12, 2018. Slattery was crucial to the Bald Eagles 38-14 overall and a perfect 20-0 PSAC record and helped the team reach the NCAA Atlantic Regional Finals.

In her career, Slattery has earned PSAC Central Pitcher of the Year twice in the 2016 and 2018 seasons. She was named to the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region First Team twice in the 2016 and 2018 seasons. She has earned first team All-PSAC three times in her Lock Haven career.

In total, Slattery has 579.4 innings pitched and racked up 540 strikeouts and has totaled 58 wins over her illustrious career.

Slattery and the Bald Eagles will kick the season off at the Snow Bird Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach, S.C. from February 15-17.
