LHU Men’s track: Zimmerman helps Haven close weekend in style

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lock Haven University men’s outdoor track & field team wrapped up a busy season-opening weekend at 2019 Alan Connie Shamrock Invite in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with another strong effort Saturday.

Brian Zimmerman (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) wasted no time in posting a strong outing at 400 meters. He was fifth overall and the third collegiate finisher with a sensational early-season time of 48.82. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying mark is currently the No. 1 time in the PSAC so far this season.

Zimmerman followed up his special day-opening outing in the 400 with a victory in the 200-meter dash. Zimmerman darted past the 48-runner field with a time of 21.80. The PSAC mark leads the conference.

Ryan Cruz (Bushkill, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) added a PSAC mark at 200 meters with a strong run of 22.49.

Freshman Craig Anderson (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) turned in a PSAC qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.22. He was ninth overall. pm Friday, the rookie ran the fourth-best 100-hurdle time in school history in the prelims with a run of 14.94.

Marcus Disbrow (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon), who recorded an NCAA provisional mark yesterday in the hammer throw, hit a PSAC qualifying mark Saturday in the discus with a throw of 133-00.00, which was good enough for 13th overall.

John Davern (Manchester, N.J./Manchester) rounded out the day’s success stories with a PSAC mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after a personal-best effort of 10:01.10.


LHU will return to action at the Juniata Invitational on March 23.
