LHU Track: Long, Moyer headline LHU Qualifier

(LHU SPORTS) Central Mountain graduate and LHU athlete Laurel Moyer competes in an NCAA track and field race on Saturday.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Freshman-jumps standout Karina Long (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and distance-standout Laurel Moyer (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) continued to impress this spring, and this time their remarkable individual efforts came at home in the friendly confines of Hubert Jack Stadium, as the Lock Haven University women’s outdoor track & field team hosted the 2019 LHU Qualifier.

Saturday’s meet marked Lock Haven’s first home meet in six years. Prior to the meet, LHU honored their seniors and held a ceremonial relay to celebrate the grand reopening of the Hubert Jack Stadium track & field facility competition surface.

Both Long and Moyer smashed school records Saturday.

Long leaped to a mark of 19-07.50 in the long jump. The performance marked a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and NCAA Division II championship qualifying mark. For Long, the first-place jump set a school record and established a new personal-best. It currently ranks No. 2 in the PSAC and No. 9 in Division II.

Long also placed third in the triple-jump with a PSAC mark of 35-09.25.

Moyer put on a show in the mile, much to the delight of the home crowd. Moyer won the event and ran 4:57.45, which smashed the school record by 18 seconds. It also broke the stadium record. LHU teammate Cadie Kiser (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) was second with a time of 5:12.08, which dipped under the previous school record by three seconds.

Riyana Owens (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown) and Rashana Tompkins (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) also starred today.

Owens won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.23. She ran 12.12 in the prelims and both times marked PSAC qualifying marks. Her 12.12 was a season-best. Owens returned to win the 200 with a strong time of 25.45 (#PSAC).

After running 15.71 (#PSAC) in the prelims, Tompkins ran 15.40 in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles and took fourth. The finals performance helped her run a season-best. Billie Jo Bollinger (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) was fifth in the 100mH with a time of 15.54 (#PSAC).

Bollinger also ran 1:07.24 in the 400-meter hurdles. She was second with the season-best outing that helped her hit a PSAC qualifying mark in the event.

Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad & Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) ran 58.72, a PSAC mark in the 400, and finished second overall. It marked a season-best

Karlee Noel (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) became a PSAC qualifier, thanks to a run of 12:22.1 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Throwers Stephanie Williams (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Megan Manglaviti (Falls, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) went 5-6 in the hammer throw with PSAC marks of 139-10.00 and 139-02.00, respectively.

Lock Haven won the 4×100-meter relay (48.40).
