Softball: Clinton Juniors open States with 8-1 win over Indiana

FROM STAFF REPORTS

BERWICK- The Clinton County (Junior) All Stars opened the State Tournament with a 8-1 win over Indiana yesterday.

“It was a total-team effort,” Clinton coach Matt Burrows said. “Everybody contributed in one way or another, whether it was defensively, offensively or both.”

Pitcher Adalynn McKeague got the win as she threw 11 strikeouts, scattered five hits and surrendered one earned run in a complete game.

“She was just outstanding with her pinpoint accuracy,” Burrows said of McKeague. “She had an effective curve ball today and just really kept the other team on their heels. She spun the ball really well, and we had stellar defense behind her.”

Clinton had a breakout inning in the fourth. Entering the frame they held a 2-1 lead, but exploded for five runs to take a 7-1 lead headed into the fifth.

“It was just hit after hit, and excellent base running,” Burrows explained of the scoring surge. “These girls just instinctively know what to do. They play aggressive, not reckless, and it really showed up today.”

Clinton finished the game with 11 hits and six stolen bases. Kelsey Burrows and Madison Hardy each posted a game-high two hits.

Clinton County returns today with a second round matchup versus Morrisville. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Ber-Vaughn Park in Berwick, PA.
