Millbrook goes under the sea

MILL HALL-Millbrook Playhouse gets ready to make a splash with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” opening Friday and running through July 23.

This classic tale will have everyone longing to be under the sea with such classic songs as “Kiss the Girl,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and the Academy Award-Winning best original song “Under the Sea.”

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home, and tail, behind and live in the world above. But first, she must defy her father, King Triton, and make a deal with her aunt, the evil sea witch Ursula. With some help from her friends, Sebastian the Crab, Flounder the guppy, and a myriad of other birds and fish, she must get Prince Eric to kiss her before the third sundown or else.

Returning for her second season at Millbrook, Courtney Laine Self serves as director and choreographer. Her previous Millbrook credits include director and choreographer for “Mary Poppins” and choreographer for the regional premiere of “My Vaudeville Man.”

The production’s musical director and conductor is Justin Adams, leading a 12- piece orchestra.

It also features local child actors Madi Meeker and Elaina Shaffer as Flounder. The local teen and children’s ensemble features Brianna Bottorf, Kendall Eichenlaub, Izyah Gerlach, Megan Hamaty, Olivia Hanna, Aimee Hunsinger, Ari Newlen, Ivy Patterson, Meghann Reeder, and Gabrielle Weaver.
