LOCK HAVEN — The LH JAMS festival will be starting a little early this year.

Avenue 209, 209 Bellefonte Ave., will be hosting a special concert beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15.

In keeping with the festivals Latin Jazz theme, Latin percussionist Rob Velez will be performing with the Rob Velez Trio.

“This is a major change in the previous festival format and we are excited about this special Thursday evening venue concert,” LH JAMS Director Steve Getz said. “It gives everyone a little tease for the rest of the LH JAMS festival.”

The smaller concert also gives people a chance to enjoy one performance in a relaxed atmosphere without the music and art overload that will take place on Saturday, Getz continued.

Rob Velez is a percussionist extraordinaire with a specialty in congas styles including, Afro-Cuban, Salsa, Latin Jazz and Big Band.

Originally from Puerto Rico, he has been pounding the skins since the early 1960s, playing in New York City as well as the tri-state area.

Since moving to Pennsylvania in the late 1980s, Rob has performed with many of the top jazz musicians in the county.

“Rob Velez is the real deal as a Latin percussionist extraordinaire,” Getz said. “Add the rest of the Trio with a great cup of coffee and the walls and coffee beans will definitely be shaking.”
