LOCK HAVEN — Local three-dimensional artist J. Mark Irwin will be showcasing his work at The Station Gallery beginning Nov. 8 with an opening reception.

Irwin uses organic forms combined with found and fabricated elements to create his pieces.

“The work I do is an attempt to invite as many people into a visual conversation as possible while allowing the viewer to make their own conclusions,” Irwin said.

Over the years, his wall pieces have been evolving into a commentary on “the fusion of machines and mechanical elements with organic life,” he said.

His free-standing pieces, which will be on display at the gallery, have been doing the same. Evolving into a “biomechanoid” direction,” he said.

“It is my hope that I have been able to successfully combine the two in my work,” he continued.

Irwin has a Bachelor’s Degree in Art with a minor in Biology from Millersville University. He has exhibited in a wide variety of venues including multiple appearances at “The Art of the State” in Harrisburg as well as Susquehanna and Bloomsburg universities and a gallery in Toronto, Ontario.

He is a Lock Haven native who currently lives in Danville with his wife Gail.

“It is an honor to exhibit the works of Lock Haven native, J. Mark Irwin,” Clinton County Arts County President Carol Cillo said.

Cillo said Irwin will present the community with a stunning example of form and balance done with finished wood and metal.

“These pieces close the 2019 Invitational Artist Series held by the CCAC Station Gallery. With examples of both wall pieces and 3D sculptures, this exhibit offers a progression of some of his earlier works continuing into those completed in the present day,” she said.

The opening reception will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 8 with the exhibit to remain in the gallery at 2 E. Bald Eagle St. until Nov. 30.
