The Repasz Band Holiday Concert 2019

WILLIAMSPORT — The historic and splendid Repasz Band will present its 2019 Winter Holiday Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.

This year’s Winter Holiday Concert features the Repasz Band’s usual wide variety of seasonal sugar plums. The Band will channel Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops with Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival.” Mannheim Steamroller arrangements will barrel through with “Fanfare and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Fum, Fum, Fum,” both by Chip Davis.

Of what might be called Ye Olde English flavors of the season will include a powerful “Passacaglia On An Old English Carol” arranged by Robert Longfield, a soaring Alfred Reed arrangement of “Greensleeves” and a merrily polyphonic “Deck The Halls With Boughs of Holly, A Merrie Fugue” by Hershy Kay and arranged by Clare Grundman.

For Hannukah happiness, the band will feature the musical theme and variations of “Dreidel Dance,” masterfully and humorously engineered by composer Robert Thurston.

Finally, a pastiche of Shelby Hanson’s “Patapan,” Jon Bubbett’s “Ornaments! A Christmas Fanfare” and the stately old-style military march “The New Colonial March” by Robert Browne Hall, himself hailed as the New England March King, one of Sousa’s closest rivals back in the day, and a virtuoso cornetist in his own right.

The band plays under the batons of senior Director Albert J. Nacinovich, Associate Director Jeffrey Dent, and Assistant Director Jessica Lewis. More information about the band’s history and present performance calendar is always available at the band’s website, repaszband.org.

The Repasz Band is also honored once again to join with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in a gesture of caring for those in need during the holiday season and throughout the year. Concertgoers are invited to bring canned food items to share if they desire to do so. Concert admission is free and all are invited as always.
