LHU professor publishes book for young adults on writing poetry

MARJORIE MADDOX

LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven University English and creative writing professor, Marjorie Maddox, recently published a new book from Kelsay Books. Geared toward a middle-grade and young adult audience, “Inside Out: Poems on Writing and Reading Poems with Insider Exercises” already has garnered attention from poets of all ages, and their teachers.

“Marjorie Maddox knows poetry,” said Charles Ghigna, “Father Goose,” an American poet and author of children’s and adult’s books. “If I had to pick one book to introduce students to the joy of writing poems, this (‘Inside Out’) would be it. Maddox creates a book full of original poems to show us the inside out of every kind of poem you could ever want to write. I dare you to read a page or two without reaching for your pen and composing a poem of your own. From alliteration to sonnets and the villanelle, Marjorie Maddox makes metaphors meaningful and memorable.”

Although in-person readings have been postponed, Maddox has gone “on tour” on numerous children’s literature and educational blogs, including Matt Forrest Esenwine’s Radio, Rhythm & Rhyme; Sylvia Vardell’s Poetry for Children; Irene Latham’s Imaginative Books for Kids; and others.

“Inside Out” is available on Amazon and Kelsay Books. For more information, visit www.marjoriemaddox.com/inside-out-description-and-reviews.
