Robbie Gould speaks to CCEP Members during quarterly meeting

Gould last week announced a $200,000 donation toward the project and said he’ll work to help generate additional local support.

Clinton County native and pro football great Robbie Gould was a guest last week for the Clinton County Economic Partnership’s quarterly membership meeting, the first-ever to be held virtually.

The San Francisco 49ers kicker who ranks among the best in the history of the NFL, brought things close to home when he announced a $200,000 commitment to the Chestnut Grove Recreation Authority, which is overseeing construction of Chestnut Grove Recreation Park, a major youth sports and recreation complex just off Route 220 in Castanea.

“This project started with a vision a couple years back, and it’s now starting to come to life” said Gould of the Chestnut Grove complex. “It will be something new and fresh that gives kids an opportunity. Sports teaches you about life, about teamwork, about yourself, so I’m really excited to be able to help get the project moving and look forward to seeing this opportunity be here for kids.”

Noting that more financial support is needed, Gould has established an online donation page so people can contribute to the Chestnut Grove Recreation Park project. To donate, go to https://chestnutgrove.eventlify.com.

Gould also talked about the recent football season and the challenges he and his teammates faced, and overcame, because of the pandemic, and he fielded questions from meeting participants.

The Partnership recorded the session, which is now available for viewing on the homepage of the organization’s website, www.ClintonCountyInfo.com.

Also at the meeting, Partnership President Mike Flanagan provided updates on several economic prospects, including a proposed natural gas petro-chemical operation, as well as a solar panel field project, both planned in the Keating area; the Renovo Energy Center project, for which planning continues to move forward; and potential interest in the former BJ Services complex at the Lamar Township Business Park.

Flanagan said First Quality plans to add two more paper machines, one at the company’s Anderson, South Carolina facility, and another at an as-yet undetermined location. He said the Partnership is hopeful the second machine would be located at the company’s Castanea Township complex.

Flanagan reported Terrapin Care Station recently completed a large expansion at the South Avis facility and now employs about 100 people.

He concluded his remarks by saying the Partnership continues to keep abreast of the proposed integration of Lock Haven, Bloomsburg and Mansfield universities and the potential impact to the local community.

Chamber/Tourism Director Julie Brennan spoke of a promotional campaign the Visitors Bureau has undertaken on social media. Paid Facebook advertisements targeted to people in a number of eastern cities are encouraging people to explore Clinton County’s wide open spaces.

Leadership Clinton County Coordinator April Bittner updated the group on this year’s Leadership program, which involves the largest class in the program’s history.
