Dogwood Circle Garden Club has bestowed its new “Blooming Business” Award on the university where, under the direction of Craig Rhoads, building maintenance foreman in the Facilities Department, the grounds flourish with flowering trees, shrubs and colorful plantings throughout the growing season. The grounds crew consists of full time employees Clay Allen, Jennifer Crawford, Jason Fisher, Jeff Glossner, Kent Homan, Jay Martin Jr. and Paula Moore. They plant, weed, prune and maintain the many planted areas throughout the campus. At this time the cherry and pear trees, azaleas, tulips and daffodils are in bloom. As summer approaches, black-eyed Susans will fill in raised beds and hillsides, hostas and lilies will bloom at the entrance. Also charged with event setup and moving furniture, Moore stated that working with the grounds gives the employees satisfaction, as they are able to see what they have accomplished. More views of the landscaping may be seen on the club’s website at www.lhgardenclub.com.
