4-H, FFA members receive scholarships from Junior Livestock Sale Committee

MACKEYVILLE –The Clinton County Junior Livestock Sale Committee recently awarded three $750 scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Recipients are Morgan Byler, who is attending Penn Foster; Megan Vonada, who is attending Penn State University, and Jennifer Conner, who is also a student at Penn State University.

The committee manages the annual auction of 4-H and FFA members’ livestock projects at the conclusion of the Clinton County Fair and uses a small percentage of each sale to support maintenance of the fairgrounds livestock arenas and provide support to 4-H and FFA members who take advantage of higher education opportunities.

The 4-H/FFA members also put together a basket each year to be auctioned off with the proceeds to go directly to scholarships. Area businesses and residents come together at the fair to support the hard work of the 4-H/FFA members at the culmination of their livestock projects.

Morgan Byler, daughter of Jefferson and Tami Byler, held various officer positions during her eight years in 4-H and FFA. Her livestock projects included swine and goats while participating with the Clinton County Stockmen Club. Morgan also volunteered at the Smoke County Jam. She has started her courses to be a certified veterinary assistant through Penn Foster to further her love for animals.

Megan Vonada

Jennifer Connor, daughter of Greg and Stacey Connor, has shown beef, swine, lambs and goats throughout her 10-year 4-H service with the Clinton County Stockmen Club which included being elected president. In high school she was involved in the National Honor Society, Student Government, and the Rotary Interact Club. Jennifer will be studying veterinary and biomedical sciences at Penn State University.

Megan Vonada, daughter of Wade and Pam Vonada, is a 10-year member of the Clinton County Bowmasters 4-H Club. She has shown steers, goats, swine, and sheep, won species type and showmanship contests for each, and was a regular exhibitor at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. She will is studying animal sciences at Penn State University working toward a career in the livestock industry.

Each of these scholarship recipients modeled the 4-H motto, “To Make the Best Better,” and have demonstrated leadership and hard work throughout their 4-H involvement. The Junior Livestock Sale Committee is proud to be able to help each of these 4-H members pursue their higher education goals.
