Veterans honored during ceremony at LHU

Below, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathon Britton, U.S. Army, had the honor of pinning several medals on Vietnam veteran Joe Hills, who served in both the Air Force and Army, during Sunday’s Veterans Day ceremony.

LOCK HAVEN — The Clinton County Veterans Affairs Office and Lock Haven University recognized veterans past and present during their annual Veterans Day ceremony at LHU’s Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center.

University President Robert Pignatallo offered remarks, as did Clinton County Commissioner Pete Smeltz. Beech Creek resident, Vietnam veteran Joe Hills, who served in both the Air Force and Army, was recognized and received several medals for his service in a pinning ceremony led by U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Jonathon Britton, Clinton County Veterans Affairs Director Bill Bechdel, and Bland J. Rossman VFW Post 1630 officer Dave Harger.

Two people – a veteran and a community member – received commemorative flags from the local 9/11 Moving Tribute for their support of veterans. Bechdel and Susan Muthler, Chapter Captain of Team Red, White & Blue, presented the flags to Marine veteran Myron Kyle who is active in Team RWB, and to Vickie Hancock with Heroes and Horses, part of t the local Horses of Hope organization.

Team RWB also presented a flag to Air Force veteran Jennifer Hagaman, who is the veterans services officer in the Veterans Affairs office, for her active involvement with Team RWB.
