JERSEY SHORE — Borough council approved Peters Consultants, Inc. for engineering services on the Meadow Alley reconstruction project during its regular monthly meeting Monday night.

The Berwick firm’s bid of $16,280 was the lowest among five bids for the project, which will include engineering design and other related work.

Council had selected the project for Community Development Block Grant funding in June.

Meadow Alley is in need of storm water work, according to borough officials.

The project is expected to get underway this summer.

Voting yes were Sean Simcox, Barb Schmouder, Marguerite Dyroff, Mike Zellers, Matthew Haas, Kenneth Scheesley, and Paul Garrett.

Janet Barnhart was absent.

In other matters, council approved a Declaration of Disaster Emergency.

The declaration is needed for the borough to apply for funding reimbursement for damages caused by flooding and high waters in 2018.

Borough Manager Joseph Hamm said the hope is to replace a Susquehanna River dock and walkway impacted by flooding.

Council approved a request from the Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police Department to locate a shed on borough property.

Also at the meeting, Councilman Sean Simcox reported to council that the police department is looking to hire another officer.

“We are losing a full-time officer to the (Jersey Shore Area) school district,” he said. “We are looking to fill a position in the department.”

The school district must still approve the three-year school resource officer agreement.
