Local square dancers take blue ribbons at Farm Show

PHOTO PROVIDED

Thirty-three area square dancers competed in Monday night’s folk dance competition at the 103rd Pennsylvania Farm Show. Dancers are from two area square dance clubs–the Friendship Squares from Bloomsburg and Country Twirlers from Selinsgrove. Pictured, fifth and sixth from the right, are Bill and Sharon Wagner of Avis, who have won numerous ribbons for square dancing at the farm show. Approximately 500 dancers from throughout the state competed with both area clubs bringing home blue (1st prize) ribbons. Dancers range in age from 6 to nearly 90. Both clubs are quite active and throughout 2018 members danced at two dozen nursing, adult day care and assisted living homes, and at local celebrations, a Virginia Steam Show and a Civil War Reenactment. During the year members danced in Hawaii, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Florida. In the Bloomsburg area contact Delavan or Shirley Whitenight at (570) 275-8586 or dandswhitenight@gmail.com. In the Selinsgrove area anyone interested in more information on square dancing or how to get involved may contact Glenn Stuck at (570) 374-2722 or countrytwirlers@verizon.net.
