DAR honors Hunter Smith as 2018 Good Citizen

JERSEY SHORE — Fort Antes Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored their 2018 Good Citizen Hunter Smith on March 16 at a luncheon. The 2018 Good Citizen is the son of Joseph and Christy Smith, High Street, Jersey Shore.

Hunter’s activities and honors in school include, treasurer of the Class of 2019 for the past four years; membership in the following Honor Societies: Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Treasurer; National Art Honor Society as president and past treasurer; and the two time winner of the Lycoming Country Judge Greevy Award for School Arts. He is a member of Future Business Leaders of America and has competed at the State level for Introduction to Information Technology, Healthcare Administration and Advertising. He is also a member or has participated in the Constitutional Convention, Model United Nation, Student Council, Young Democrats, and Spectrum Club. He has been selected Student of the Month for both January and February. Outside of school, Hunter is a member of Lifetree church where he has assisted with Vacation Bible School. He was a Boy Scout. He has worked as a dishwasher at Gable Farm Inn & Suites and has done babysitting for family and friends.

Hunter has been accepted into several colleges, and he is awaiting word from others. He wants to study international affairs program and hopes to use his education to become a foreign policy advisor.

School personnel selected the Good Citizen based on the qualities of dependability (truthfulness, loyalty and punctuality); service (cooperation, courtesy and; leadership (personality, self-control and the ability to assume responsibility; and patriotism (an unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation).

Hunter was introduced, given a certificate and pin, and read her essay. Also introduced were his parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Christy Smith. Mrs. Kaye H. Long, Good Citizen Chairperson made the introductions and presentations.

Fort Antes Chapter met for a luncheon meeting for members and guest at the First United Methodist Church in Jersey Shore. Barb Schmounder, Regent, conducted a short business meeting. The next meeting will be a dinner program presented by Marylouise Mazzante on Tuesday, April 23.
