LOCK HAVEN — There’s a new business coming to downtown Lock Haven.

Emma’s Primitives, a quaint shop that will have a little bit of everything, will hold its grand opening from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 3 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. The shop is located at 8 Bellefonte Ave.

Tamy Lamey, owner of Emma’s Primitives, said that her shop has been several years in the making.

“Five years ago, I started messing around, making crafts myself, going to craft shows and things. I saw how it would be easy to go a little bit bigger,” Lamey said. “Watching other people really inspired me. I started going a little bit bigger with crafts and that’s how we got here.”

As for the location, Lamey is thrilled to be in the heart of downtown. In a previous life, the building was a loan office.

“Me and my husband thought about it and I said ‘I really, really want my own store.’ It’s very, very exciting. You only live once. We bit the bullet and we’re in,” Lamey said.

Several years ago, Lamey gained a big following making wreaths, she said. That gave her a foundation to build her business.

Emma’s Primitives has small furniture, decorative household items, lamps, wall hangings and kitchen items — just for starters.

“My whole concept is making the stuff reasonably priced for people to buy. That is my biggest thing. I just think everybody should be able to afford to buy this stuff,” Lamey said.

According to Lamey, there is a real market for the rustic-looking items.

“I just love it. You would think I would have all this is my house, but I don’t because I put everything back into the business,” she said. If you’re not looking for furniture or household items, have no fear.

Lamey is also going to offer coffee and ice cream. The coffee, Lamey said, will come from Buzzsaw Coffee Roasters out of Williamsport.

“If you like a good cup of coffee, oh my gosh. I’m going to grind it and make it fresh here. We have all the equipment here for that,” Lamey said.

Emma’s Primitives will also sell hand-dipped Hershey’s ice cream.

“We’re not sure what flavors will be coming just yet,” Lamey explained.

To start, ice cream will be served in dishes. She’s hoping to add cones eventually.

If ice cream doesn’t hit your sweet tooth, Lamey hopes to have Mammy’s Donuts every Friday.

Emma’s Primitives will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours until 6 p.m. on Fridays. During the grand opening, there will 10 percent off one item, door prizes and free refreshments.
