LIONS NEWS

Howard Area Lions Club will be cleaning up the roadway on April 27. Lions and volunteers are to meet at the Howard VFW parking lot at 8 a.m. to start. This project is part of the Keep PA Beautiful program to pick up litter and debris from the local roadsides.

Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution will be on May 6 for Centre County residents and on May 20 for Beech Creek area residents. Food bank hours are from 2-4 p.m. at the former Beech Creek Elementary School.

Howard Area Lions Bingo will be held on Thursday evenings, May 9 and 23, at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 o’clock with first bingo ball dropped at 6:30 p.m. There are 50/50 raffles held, rip ticket games and the jackpots are up over $500 for a lucky winner to claim. Once the May bingo dates are done the Lions will take a break during the summertime months before resuming bingo again in September.

Howard Area Lions Club is planning a Memorial Ceremony at the Foster Sayers Memorial site at Sayers Dam. The service will being at 6 p.m. on May 24.

WEEKEND EVENTS

Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority will hold a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on April 26 and 27. The HHW Event will be held on Friday from 9-5 and on Saturday from 8-2 and is for residential households only. Items that are acceptable will be household cleaners, oil-based paints, insecticides, weed killers, pool chemicals, CFL bulbs and fluorescent tubes. For more information about the HHW Collection Event call CCRRA at 814-238-7005.

Country Music Jam will be held on Sunday, April 28, at the Howard fire hall from 2-6 p.m. Bring a covered dish or snack to share. A donation basket is passed to benefit the Howard Fire Company.

YARD SALES

Howard Community Yard Sale Days will be on May 3 and 4. Residents are invited to set up a yard or garage sale on these dates.

Howard United Methodist Church will hold an indoor yard sale on May 2 from 8-2 and again from 6-8 p.m. On May 3 and May 4 the church yard sale will be held from 8-1. Bake sale items will also be available and the kitchen will be open for hot dogs and beverages. A light breakfast will be available on Saturday morning for a fee, too.

A Used Book Sale will be held during the town-wide sale dates at Storage Unit # 3 located behind the apartment building and across from the post office building. There is a massive selection of various genres including mystery, suspense, romance, science fiction and others. The books were taken from the Gilbert Glenn home following his passing and will be available for a donation dropped into the fireman’s boot. Call Deb Herman at 625-2102 for more information about this used book sale.

Milesburg Yard Sale Days will be on May 10 and 11.

Howard Fire Company’s annual indoor yard sale will be held on May 16-17-18. Donations of clean and working items will be accepted at the fire station on May 13-14-15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The yard sale times on May 16 and 17 will be from 9-6 and on Saturday from 9-noon. Call Earl Thompson at 625-2373 for yard sale questions.

FAIRVIEW CEMETERY

Fairview Cemetery Association will hold their annual cemetery clean-up of the grave sites on Saturday, May 4. Any decorations that you want to save will need to be removed from the lots before the clean up date. A rain date for clean-up will be on 11. All lot owners and anyone interested should plan to attend the 9 a.m. clean-up and meeting shortly afterward.

Fairview Cemetery Association will hold their annual Memorial Service on Sunday, May 19 beginning at 2 p.m. The guest speaker this year will be Elisa Osman, the Chaplain at The Oaks retirement home in Pleasant Gap. For more info about the cemetery call Nicky at 355-4823 or Herb at 355-1974.

CHICKEN BBQ

A chicken bbq will be held on Saturday, May 18, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Yarnell Community Center. Tiny will be grilling up chicken halves to benefit the community center. Tickets are being sold beforehand to get a good idea of the amount of chicken needed. Tickets are $10 each which includes a meal of chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans and a roll.
