Old photo album: Lock Haven before the levee
EXPRESS ARCHIVES
This photo was taken before the construction of the levee and the replacement of the Jay Street bridge. The Jay Street bridge was removed and replaced with the current one in the 1980s. The levee began construction in the early 1990s and was completed in 1995 to help prevent major flooding in the city. You can see a clear view of the Courthouse at the intersection of Water and Jay streets as well as the houses on the southern side of the street. Before the levee was built, the area where it stands had benches for residents and visitors to sit and enjoy a nice view of the Susquehanna River.
