Philip Evans

LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven University will hold its 142nd commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11.

The Friday graduate ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse and the Saturday undergraduate ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at Hubert Jack Stadium, both on the campus of LHU.

The speaker for both the graduate and undergraduate ceremonies will be Philip Evans, who graduated in 1986 from LHU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He then later received a master’s degree from the University of Oregon.

As the president and CEO of ProtoCall Services, Evans has had a pivotal role in growing a business that provides immediate access to telephonic professional crisis intervention services. He helped launch the organization as one of 13 employees in 1993, and since becoming its CEO in 1999, ProtoCall has grown to more than 200 employees, serving nearly 450 different organizations, from four locations nationwide.

Today, ProtoCall responds to more than 50,000 calls every month, including calls from more than 250 college and university campuses across the United States. Evans’ mission is to create compassionate, hopeful and effective access to behavioral health and crisis services when they’re needed most.

Lock Haven University’s main campus is located on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in the scenic mountains of Pennsylvania. The university offers 49 undergraduate majors and certifications with 47 minors and five graduate programs.

LHU is a member of Pennsylvania’s State System, the largest provider of higher education in the Commonwealth. Its 14 universities offer more than 2,300 degree and certificate programs in more than 530 academic areas of study. Nearly 520,000 system alumni live and work in Pennsylvania.
