LOCK HAVEN – On Oct. 19, 15 volunteers from the Clinton County Democrats gathered to clean up the Island Road in Lock Haven and Castanea Township.

The Clinton County Democratic Committee (CCDC) last year agreed to participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program offered by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

“We care about the environment around us as well as our community, and this program allows us to dedicate time to both!” said CCDC Chairwoman Rose Reeder.

The CCDC has adopted State Route 1002 (from segment 0010 offset 0000 to segment 0040 offset 1278), beginning at the underpass of the Constitution Bridge in Lock Haven. The adopted route is marked by blue signs at each end of the stretch.

Volunteers met at Memorial Park, where they were treated to doughnuts. After a brief safety talk and donning gloves and orange vests provided by PennDOT, volunteers broke off into two groups.

“This was our second cleanup, and our group removed about six garbage bags of trash from the roadway when all was said and done. This was more than we had anticipated, and that felt good!” said Reeder.

The CCDC plans to hold two cleanup events each year, one in the spring and one in the fall.
