Veterans Day activities and events

LOCK HAVEN — Veterans Day is next Monday, Nov. 11, and there are numerous activities and events planned to honor our veterans on their special day. The Express has received information about the following events.

TODAY

— Lock Haven University will honor veterans during the halftime of LHU Military Appreciation Game. The game begins at 1 p.m. Veterans get in free.

SUNDAY

— Veterans Concert will be held at 3 p.m. at Price Performance Center at Lock Haven University. LHU and Central Mountain Middle School choirs will perform. Free and open to the public.

MONDAY

— Robb Elementary School will hold a school-wide Veterans Day celebration at 9 a.m.

— Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at Durrwachter Alumni Center on Lock Haven University campus. Open to public.

— Bucktail Middle/Senior High School will host the annual Veterans Day Assembly Program on in the Dale Florey High School Gymnasium. The assembly will begin at 9:30 am. The theme of the assembly this year is “Heroes Among Us.” There will be singing, video presentations, speeches, and refreshments to honor our veterans.

— Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. on the steps outside Centre County Courthouse in

Bellefonte.

— The Seventeenth Annual Veterans Day Prayer for America Service will be held at 7 p.m.(with Fair Play Brass playing at 6:30 p.m.) at Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St., the stone church with a clock in the steeple. Led by the Jersey Shore Area Ministerium, it will feature the Honor Guard, Scriptures, prayers, patriotic hymns, recognition of the fallen, interpreted folding of the flag, young marines as ushers, and special music by the Fair Play Brass, a multi-church Choir, and others, with free refreshments following. The speaker this year is U.S. Army (retired) Private Richard Bressler.For further info call Pastor Charlie Winkelman at 570-398-1909.

— The Nittany MinitMart chain of 27 convenience stores is offering all veterans a free meal on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov, 11. Any veteran with proper identification will get a six-inch ham or turkey hoagie with all the fixings along with a 20 ounce coffee or fountain drink at no charge.

— All Veterans and Active Duty Military and families are invited to the Centre Furnace Mansion between 9-11 a.m. to enjoy donuts, cider and tour the Centre Furnace Mansion. In addition, see the exhibition “Up, Up & Away, Sherm Lutz and the State College Air Depot” and historic military artifacts from the CCHS Collections. The mansion is located at 1001 E. College Ave., State College.

MONDAY, NOV. 18

–Veterans Dinner will be held at Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center at Lock Haven University. It’s a free Thanskgiving-style dinner to express appreciation to all U.S. servicemen and women. Seating is limited to 200 people. Veterans may bring one guest. Call 570-893-4339 by Nov. 11 to reserve a seat.
