Tie vote for Jersey Shore Area School Board president

JERSEY SHORE — An attempt to change the leadership of the Jersey Shore Area School board was unsuccessful, as a vote on both the president and vice president resulted in ties which means that the positions will remain the same.

A vacancy on the board, due to the resignation of Kelley Wasson last month, has not been filled which resulted in 4-4 vote for both positions.

Craig Allen will continue as board president with Mary Thomas as vice president. Newcomer to the board, Patrice Doebler was approved as assistant board secretary.

Committee appointments were:

— PSBA legislative representatives: Allen and Michelle Stemler.

— Professional learning committee representative: Thomas.

— Comprehensive planning steering committee representatives: Angela Grant, Doebler and Nancy Petrosky.

— CTE general advisory committee representative: Doebler.

— Intermediate Unit No. 17 representative: Petrosky

— Negotiations committee: Allen, Wayne Kinley, Harry Brungard and Stemler.

— Capital projects committee: Thomas, Kinley, vacancy.

During the courtesy of the floor, Raye Bierly, who had been voted down to fill the board vacancy at last month’s meeting, alleged that the board president had not shared her resume with other board members prior to the vote on her application for the position. Bierly contended her resume showed that she was a “good appointment to the board.”

She further questioned whether this omission constituted a violation of the code of conduct for a school board member.

The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the district board room, 175 A&P Drive.
