Time to apply for 2020 Tourism/Recreation Grant

LOCK HAVEN — The 2020 Tourism/Recreation Grant program is now open for business.

That was the word from Julie Brennan, tourism director with the Clinton County Economic Partnership, at Thursday’s meeting of the Clinton County commissioners.

The Clinton County commissioners, in conjunction with the Clinton County Economic Partnership’s Tourist Promotion Agency and the County Planning department are accepting applications for the 2020 Tourism/Recreation Grant program, Brennan said.

“The program is designed to help grow events and tourism in Clinton County,” Brennan said, adding that $60,000 has been allocated this year. “That’s the highest amount ever.”

Brennan said application forms and grant guidelines are now available and the application deadline is Feb. 28.

The grant program allows the county to solicit proposals and support local events and projects based on funds generated through the County Hotel Tax. In general, the grant funds are intended for use as promotional funds and start-up money for activities that promote or enhance tourism and recreational opportunities within the county, promote increased overnight visitor stays in the county, and benefit Clinton County as well as the goader geographic regional known as the PA Wilds.

To be eligible to apply this year, applicants must attend a brief grant overview session in the second floor public meeting room at the Clinton County Piper Building, 2 Piper Way, Lock Haven. That meeting is set for 11 a.m. on Jan. 21.

Applications are reviewed by a committee and awards are announced annually by the Tourist Promotion Agency and the county commissioners.

These are reimbursement grants, Brennan said, explaining that those who receive the grants must spend the money within the year, submit a final report and then they will receive reimbursement. All grant awards require a cash or in-kind local match of at least 25 percent.

Applications are available at the Clinton County Planning Office in the Piper Building, 2 Piper Way, Lock Haven, or at the Clinton County Economic Partnership, 212 N. Jay St., Lock Haven.
