MILL HALL — A Central Mountain High School cheerleader has been chosen for the PSFCA Big 33 Cheer Squads for both the Pennsylvania and Maryland teams for the “Super Bowl of High School Football” game to be played on Memorial Day Monday, May 25, at 2 p.m at Landis Field, Harrisburg.

For the second year, Central Mountain Senior Varsity Cheerleading Captain Adysyn Phillips will be on the sidelines of the game.

Ady is the daughter of Neil and Linda Phillips of Beech Creek and has been cheering for 14 years. She is a UCA All American Cheerleader, a member of the Central Mountain High School National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. Ady will be graduating a year ahead of her class and has been accepted at Lock Haven University this fall majoring in Health and Physical Education and will be a cheerleader on the sidelines of the Bald Eagles.

Ady’s varsity coach is Dee Gentzel. In her letter of recommendation for Adysyn’s nomination, Dee wrote, “When I began coaching Adysyn, I was immediately impressed with her maturity and confidence on the field. Adysyn is one of the hardest working student-athletes that I have encountered in my 25 years of coaching. She displays a great attitude at practices and games and has displayed that she is a born leader and determined to achieve her goals.”

“We are blessed with extreme talent each year, and this year we saw another incredible group of exceptional athletes. We are extremely proud of all of the cheerleaders chosen as your 2020 Big 33 Cheer Teams. Once again, I am looking forward to a great event and to working with all of these wonderful student leaders along with their special buddies!” Head Cheerleading Coach for Big 33 Alanna Fox said.

Components of the PSFCA Big 33 Game Day include a halftime routine and sideline cheering. After trying out before a panel of eight judges, 66 Big 33 cheerleaders were chosen; 33 for each the Pennsylvania and Maryland squads.

PSFCA Big 33 Executive Director Garry Cathell says “all of our talented student athletes add to the wonderful Big 33 tradition and excitement to the Big 33 experience. Our cheerleaders work extremely hard and have a major life-long impact on their special needs buddies. It’s always heartwarming to watch the bonds created between our players, cheerleaders and buddies each year. Big 33 creates such special memories for all of these exceptional students and our youth.”

The cheerleaders, along with the football players, are a part of the Big 33 Buddy program which is designed to partner a special needs child with a Big 33 cheerleader or football player. The cheer buddies wear a cheerleading uniform and participate in the halftime routine.
