Tree trimming Monday on Woodward Cave Road

BELLEFONTE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists that work to trim and remove trees is scheduled to resume Monday, Feb. 24, along Route 2018 (Woodward Cave Road) near Milheim in Centre County.

For the next several weeks, crews will be working on Route 2018 from the intersection of Route 2011 (Coburn Road) to the intersection of Route 45. The goal of this project is to trim and remove trees in the Department’s right-of-way along this section of roadway to increase motorist safety and extend the useful life of the roadway surface.

Tree trimming will provide “daylighting” to the roadway, allowing sunlight to speed snow and ice melt during winter months. Trimming and tree removal will also enhance sight distance at some locations and lessen the potential for old and dead trees to fall onto the road.

The area is sparsely populated, and traffic impacts are expected to be minimal. However, motorists could encounter short delays as roadway flaggers enforce an alternating traffic pattern during this operation. Drivers should remain alert for flaggers and stopped or slowed traffic.

All work will be done during daylight hours and is weather dependent.
