COVID DEATH TOLL

— Three days before Memorial Day, our COVID-19 death toll surpassed the number of U.S. service members who perished in the Korean or Vietnam Wars.

–U.S. deaths among service members in Vietnam are usually reported as 58,220. The Pentagon tally for Korea is 36, 913. Added together, the two wars took 95,113 lives.

–The Covid death toll has just surpassed the number of U.S. deaths during the first nine years of the AIDS epidemic. In fewer than 3 months, the total exceeds the 90,268 AIDS deaths recorded in the U.S. from 1981 through 1989.

–Covid deaths during the first 19 days of May exceeded the 28,054 AIDS deaths which occurred during all of 1989 (the 9th year of the epidemic)

Avis Carnival canceled

The Avis Memorial Day Carnival scheduled for May 26 through 30 at the Avis Fire Company is canceled. The company’s food sale will still be held outside the fire hall on May 29 and 30.

City survey

The City of Lock Haven is encouraging city residents to take a 14 question survey. The data collected will be used to determine what projects should be included in the 2020 Comprehensive Plan update. The survey can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Lock-Haven-Survey
