Howard Happenings

The Howard Area Lions Food Bank will be open on Monday, June 1, for the Centre County residents in the Lions service area. The Lions will also provide food aid to anyone impacted by COVID-19 that are in need at this time.

Distribution is from noon to 4 p.m. at the former Beech Creek Elementary School. Bring your boxes back so they can be reused each month at the food bank. Stay in your vehicle and the Lions will help you. Do wear your mask when you encounter other individuals, both for your own protection and those around you.

The Master Gardeners from Penn State will be at the distribution to give out vegetable plants to those who would like them.

Karen Bucher will be available at the food bank distribution to give out information on how to help with debts during these pandemic days.

Anyone needing food bank help during the month should feel free to contact Ron Davy at 570-962-2407.

The townwide yardsale in Howard usually was held the first weekend in May, but they’ve been moved this year to the first weekend in June.

Residents can set up their yard or garage sales for June 5 and June 6 but should remember to practice social distancing.

Remember that the mail man and the garbage man need to be able to get thru to do their normal routes so don’t park to obstruct their duties.

Also, if you put up signs advertising your yard sales you need to go back and take those signs down so that our town isn’t littered with outdated and unnecessary signs.

The Nittany Valley Amish Benefit Dinner that was scheduled for June 6 at the Hublersburg Fire Hall has been cancelled because of the virus restrictions.

The first dinner had to be cancelled and now this one, too. The Amish community hosts the dinners to raise funds for their local schools.

There’s one more dinner scheduled for this year on Sept. 19. Hopefully the virus threat will be gone by then that the meal can continue as planned.

For those who paid early for a meal please contact Katie at 814-383-2008 to discuss your refund options or call Sam at 570-295-1785 for more info.
