Howard Area Lions Club will have their Food Bank distribution on Aug. 3 for the residents of Centre County and on Aug. 17 for those residents who live in the Beech Creek area of Clinton County. Food bank hours are from 1-4 p.m. at the former Beech Creek Elementary School. Those coming for food aid should remain in your vehicles and wear a mask when approached by the food bank workers. Please bring your empty boxes back each month so the Lions can refill them for the food distribution. Questions about the Howard Area Food Bank should be directed to Ron Davy at 570-962-2407.

Howard Area Lions Club has medical equipment that can be borrowed free of charge to those needing items such as walkers, canes, wheel chairs, hospital beds, shower chairs and other items. Contact Dwayne Haines at 570-962-2939 if you are in need of medical equipment.

If you have borrowed medical equipment and are no longer using it, please return it to the Lions Club so that others who may need it can be helped, too.

The Lions Club sells caned brooms to benefit Lions International and the blind. Brooms are available at Insurance Office in Howard during weekday office hours.The brooms are $11 each.


The Schenck’s Reunion that was scheduled for Aug. 8 at Bald Eagle State Park has been canceled. Questions can be directed to Barb at 570-748-8631.

The 54th Annual Foxy Heverly reunion that was scheduled for Aug. 8 at Bald Eagle State Park has been canceled because of COVID-19. Lord willing the next family reunion will be held on Aug. 14, 2021.

The 46th Annual Flegal/Walker reunion that was scheduled for Aug. 9 at Bald Eagle State Park has been canceled because of the pandemic. Lord willing the next family reunion will be held on Aug. 8, 2021. Call Sharon at 570-962-3088 for info on the Heverly or Flegal/Walker reunions.

Country Music Jam at the Howard Fire Hall that is usually held the fourth Sunday afternoon of the month has been canceled for Aug. 23. Call Connie at 625-2724 for info on the Back Porch String Band.

The Meckley family reunion scheduled for Labor Day at Bald Eagle State Park has been cancelled. For info call Pam at 814-404-4598.

John Eck, our 55 Alive Defensive Driving Instructor, has notified me that AARP has canceled all classes for the rest of 2020. Once we would learn of classes able to be restarted in 2021 we will make every effort to schedule a local class so that people can register and get their auto insurance discount again.


Howard Post Office will have a change in their working hours beginning on Aug. 10. Customers may enter the lobby and obtain window service Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The post office will close for lunch from 11 a.m. on weekdays.

On Saturday the post office will be open from 7:30 until 11 a.m.


There’s a Farmers Market every Thursday morning at Valley Ace Hardware parking lot in Milesburg. Vendors are usually there selling until mid-afternoon. More vendors are encouraged to come set up your stands and can stop by the store or call 814-355-5451 to learn more details.
