LH Shoe Bank is open this Saturday

LOCK HAVEN — The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank will give free new shoes to kids and teens this Saturday, Oct. 17th. The Shoe Bank is inside Covenant United Methodist Church at 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven.

The Shoe Bank has new procedures for everyone due to COVID-19, to protect the families served as well as the volunteers. If anyone is ill, please stay home.

Here are the new ways to visit the Shoe Bank:

1. Everyone will be required to wear a mask. If you do not wear one, you will not be able to come into the church.

2. No walk-in families will be able to get shoes. Everyone needs an appointment.

3. Only two families at a time will be in the Shoe Bank room. Appointments will be scheduled every 15 minutes depending on the size of the family. Appointment times for Saturday are 11:00 a.m., 11:15, 11:30, 11:45, 12:00, 12:15, 12:30, 12:45, 1:00, 1:15, 1:30; 1:45, and 2:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call or text Diahann G. Claghorn at 814-571-5324, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please state if you are new to the program, how many boys and girls need shoes, and if there are any special requests or needs such as needing to use the handicap entrance.

4. Please arrive 5 minutes early to keep your appointment. If you are late for your scheduled time, you will have to reschedule.

5. There will be no activities for children in the hallway. The waiting time should be short, with only 1 or 2 families waiting at one time. The water fountain and bathrooms are closed.

6. The volunteers follow all CDC and PA Department of Health guidelines by cleaning and sanitizing after each family has left so everyone is safe.

The volunteers will continue to follow and adjust these procedures while the pandemic is here. If you have any questions, call Diahann at 814-571-5324.

The Shoe Bank gives a free pair of new shoes and socks to children from infants through 17-year-olds who have a CHIP card, a similar insurance card, or a Medical Access card and who live anywhere in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin Elementary School attendance area. They may also be referred by an agency or organization. Free books are also given to the children and teens.

The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank is funded by the Clinton County Community Foundation, a grant from M&T Bank, civic groups, churches, and individual donors like you!
