Old Photo Album: And off it goes!

EXPRESS ARCHIVES

A wartime Piper Cub is pictured mid-take off at the William T. Piper Memorial Airport on Jan. 12, 1974. The plane, built by Piper Aircraft Corp during World War II, was used for artillery spotting, reconnaissance, rescuing wounded and a hundred other ways. This light weight plane, as many know, was so valuable it was used on all fronts during the war. Its dual wheels are of note as it helped the plane land in fields and on improvised runways.
