Christian School receives grant for beekeeping course

PHOTO PROVIDED

State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz, R-Clinton/Centre, recently met with staff from the Walnut Street Christian School in Avis to recognize the school’s receipt of a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to begin a beekeeping course. Pictured with Borowicz, from left are Tom Krick, principal; Jeremy Geisler, environmental science teacher; Jessica Dick, kindergarten teacher and beekeeper; and Tim Longnecker, pastor and beekeeper. The school is excited to add this class to their curriculum this fall. With this grant, the students will be well-equipped to learn about each aspect of beekeeping, from the initial study of the honey bee to ordering equipment and assembling the beehives to monitoring the bees in the field, with the eventual goal of harvesting the honey. The school envisions that this course will only expand and be an asset to students and the community for years to come!
