There will be a vendor market at the Friendship Community Center on Saturday, May 15, from 9-3. More than 20 vendors will be set up selling their items during the day. The kitchen will be open with hot dogs, BBQ’s, macaroni and pasta salads, baked goods and beverages for sale. There will be a basket raffle and 50/50 chances for sale, too.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the upkeep of the Baptist Cemetery in Blanchard. For more info about this pop-up vendor market please call Tammy Morrow at 570-660-4552.


I’m happy to add community yard sales to my Howard Happenings article. Keep in mind that if you put up yard sale signs you should go back and take them down, too. You should wear a mask and practice social distancing when attending yard sales. Take along some hand sanitizer to use frequently, too.

Laurel Run United Methodist Church is having their annual yard sale and baked goods sale on May 14 (from 8-4) and on May 15 from 8-2. The church is located along Laurel Run Road between Beech Creek and Mill Hall.

Milesburg Yard Sale Days will be on May 14 and May 15. Milesburg Museum will also be open during the sale days. Milesburg will have it’s fall yard sale days on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, 2021.

Bellefonte Yard Sale Days will be today and tomorrow, too.

Howard Fire Company will have their indoor yard sale on May 20-21-22. You can drop your donations off on May 17-19 at the fire hall from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please be sure your items are clean and in good working condition. No donations of tires or electronics (like TV’s or computers) will be accepted. The sale times will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday.


The annual Memorial Service at the Fairview Cemetery will be held on Sunday, May 23, beginning at 2 p.m. The service is outdoors and people should practice their social distancing skills. The guest speaker for the service this year will be Dave Etters who is now pasturing at the little country Fairview Church. A donation can will be circulated for monetary donations to be given at the service that are used for the perpetual care of the cemetery grounds.

The Howard Area Lions will hold a Memorial Service on May 28 at 6 p.m. at the Foster Joseph Sayers Memorial site near the spillway in Blanchard.

The Beech Creek American Legion Post 623 will be having Memorial Services on May 31. Joe Hills, the Legion Commander, has informed that the day will begin at 9:30 at the Legion grounds. At 10 a.m. there will be a flag dedication service at Hays-Fearon-Bossert Cemetery with the memorial service afterward. The guest speaker at the flag dedication ceremony will be Jennifer Hagaman, the director of the Clinton County Veterans Affairs Office.

From there the procession will head to Clark’s Cemetery, to the Beech Creek Bridge, to the Church of Christ Cemetery in Blanchard, to the cemetery beside the Liberty Baptist Church and finally the last stop will be at the Foster Joseph Sayers Memorial at the spill way.


Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution for the Beech Creek area residents in Clinton County and those of Centre County in the Lions service area who missed their distribution earlier this month will be on May 17. The food bank runs from noon until 3 p.m.

Penn State’s Master Gardeners Club will have free garden plants available at the May 17 distribution and again on June 7 for the food bank distribution. You may contact Food Bank Chairman Ron Davy at 570-962-2407 for more info on the food bank program.

Howard Area Lions has a free medical equipment loaner program for those who need medical supplies. Canes, walkers, crutches, wheel chairs, hospital beds, bedside potties, shower chairs and other equipment is available to those who need it by contacting Lion Duwayne Haines at 570-962-2939. If you have medical equipment that you borrowed from the Lions and are no longer using it please return it so that it will be available for others who could benefit from it.

Howard Area Lions Club also collects used hearing aids and eye glasses. Hearing aids should be put into a small plastic baggie (for hygiene purposes) and they along with pairs of glasses can be given to any Lion member throughout the year. You can give the glasses and hearing aids to the Lions at food bank distributions or at any Lions function. Earl will be collecting them at the Howard Fire Company yard sale days, too. Sometimes the local funeral directors and pastors will collect the items and see that the Lions Club gets them but you’ll need to check with the funeral homes and pastors to be sure.


Millheim Fire Company is selling raffle tickets with the prize being a new Polaris General 1000 side-by-side. The tickets are $20 each (or 6 for $100) and the winner will be drawn on October 14 at 6 p.m. The tickets will be sold at the Nittany Antique Machinery Show at Penns Cave on June 4-6. Tickets are also available at Millheim’s Small Engine Shop, from any fire company member or by contacting the fire station at 814-349-8164.
