1854: The first public school building was erected on East Bald Eagle Street. It was the only grade school in Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia.
In the community of Woolrich, a Cub Scout Pack is being established. Cub scouts will make new friends, play purposeful games, and learn new skills. Cub scout families will have fun camping and taking outdoor adventures along the nearby Mid-State Trail or Woolrich Park. Meetings and group events will be held at the Woolrich Church on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The Woolrich Pack is open to boys and girls ages 5-10. Visit them at the Woolrich United Methodist Church Open House on Oct. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. and meet the Woolrich Pack Cubmaster and Den Chief. Registration is open for The Salvation Army’s after-school program that takes place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The program will run from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $75 per year and include dinner, homework help, games and social interaction. For more information call 570-748-2951.
