The Orviston Community Celebration will be held on July 8-9 this year and to buy the fireworks for the festival’s end the committee holds a Chicken and Waffles Dinner. This year the dinner will be held on Saturday, May 14, at the Beech Creek-Blanchard Fire Company social hall. The dinner will run from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and the cost for anyone age 9 and over is $10. Those youngsters who are eight and younger can eat for free. There will be both eat-in meals and take-outs available. Call Brenda at 570-660-5283 to reserve your meals or for more info.


Beech Creek Wesleyan Church will have an Egg Hunt for area children on Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at the church located at 217 Main St. in Beech Creek. For more info call the church at 570-962-2732.

Howard Community Easter Egg Hunt will be Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at the Community Park (beside the Post Office). There will be prizes and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Millheim Fire Company will host an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 0-12 at the Millheim Pool grounds on Saturday, April 16, at 12:30 p.m. Bring your own basket or bag for collecting eggs. The Easter Bunny will be there.


Pastor Chris Davis at Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard invites the public to join him and his wife, Greta, for special services during the Easter season.

This Sunday, April 10, there will be a Palm Sunday Worship Service that begins at 10:15 a.m.

On Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m. there will be a Maundy Thursday Prayer and Reflection Service.

On Good Friday, April 15, at 9 a.m. there will be a Women’s Sacrificial Breakfast. Please RSVP to 570-962-2214 before noon on April 14 if you plan to attend.

Also on Good Friday at 10:30 a.m. there will be the Cross Walk with the congregation and anyone who would like to join them carrying the cross from the church to Sayers Dam where there will be a devotional time.

On Easter Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. there will be a Worship Service celebrating the resurrection and our new birth in Jesus.



Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek will be holding an Easter Bazaar this evening, April 8. The bazaar will run from 3-8 p.m. There are about 15 different vendors already planning to attend. A few tables are left if anyone is interested in participating in the bazaar. Tables will be $10 each and you can reserve a table space by calling Sandi at 570-962-2397.

The FCC will be selling Kiwanis Spring Raffle tickets at the bazaar to raise funds for a new wheel chair ramp and sidewalk.

Howard Christian Church will have an Easter Bazaar tomorrow, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church on Walnut Street in Howard. Homemade pot pie will be sold by the quart for $8.50 and can be pre-ordered by calling Sheri at 814-876-2910. The bazaar will also feature baked goods (pies, cakes and breads), Easter candy, crafts and more.

Valerie Wynn from the Loganton area will be there selling her homemade Easter eggs. Valerie makes many different flavors and sizes of eggs to choose from.

Proceeds from the bazaar will be used by the church to help people in the community with a financial need.


Curtin Village will host an Easter egg roll and Easter bonnet parade at the Curtin Mansion in Howard on April 9 from 2-4 p.m. Bring your own hard boiled eggs for the roll at 2 p.m. and wear your decorated bonnet or hat for the parade at 3:30 p.m. There will be prizes, food trucks, croquet and family fun. Bring your lawn chair along. The rain date will be April 10.

Logan Fire Company in Bellefonte will have an ATV and Gun drawing on April 9 at 4 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and available from any fire company member. The ATV is a 2022 Polaris Sportsman 570 EPS. The drawing will be held via Facebook live. Visit www.LoganFireCo1.org for more info.

Liberty Township Sportsmen’s Club in Marsh Creek will be having a rabbit shoot on April 9 at the skeet field located at 1140 Marsh Creek Road, Howard. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the shoot runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $15 to enter. Call Gary at 814-441-8952 for more info.

There will be a Hunter’s Safety Class at the Sportsmen’s Clubhouse on April 9 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants must be 11 years old before April 9 to register. Go to the Liberty Township Sportsmen’s Association’s website and click on the tab to register which should take you directly to the PA Game Commission’s website. Millheim Fire Company will host a Palm Sunday Brunch at the fire station on April 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will be pancakes, scrambled eggs and ham, sausage and potato casseroles, omelets with peppers, onions and cheese, creamed dried beef over toast, fruit, baked goods and beverages. The prices are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6-12. Little tykes age 5 and under can eat free. Call 814-470-1510 for more info.

Cemetery Clean-up

Clean-up for Schenck’s Cemetery located in Howard Township will be done this week. Please remove any decorations that you would want to keep. All items will be removed and placed into the trash during the clean-up process.

The clean-up should be completed by mid-week (weather permitting) and you will then be able to put new decorations on for the Easter weekend.


Bald Eagle Valley Community Church will have a ham and a chicken pot pie sale on Monday, April 11. The pot pie comes in freezable, plastic containers and is $8 per quart. Bread is included with the pot pie. Pre-orders are requested by calling Janette at 814-883-0893. Pick-up and payment for your orders will be done using a drive-thru procession in the church parking lot beginning at 4 p.m. on April 11. This is the last pot pie sale at the church until the fall months. The church is located at 111 Runville Road, Bellefonte, which is directly behind the Sheetz store in Wingate.

Howard Area Lions will host a Red Cross Blood Drive at the Howard fire hall on Wednesday, April 13, from 1:30 to 7 p.m.

Lions Bingo will be held on Thursday evening, April 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m.

Logan Grange #109 in Pleasant Gap will be holding a soup sale on Saturday, April 23, beginning at 10 a.m. The soup flavors are ham and bean, chicken corn noodle and chili.

The soup is $8 for each quart. Pre-ordering is suggested by calling 814-360-5756 or 814-404-1521 or by emailing to logangrange109@gmail.com. You can check out their Facebook page and send a private message, too. The Grange Hall is located at 122 N. Main St. in Pleasant Gap.

The Centre Hall Fire Company will be holding an outdoor flea market at their new station grounds located at 134 N. Witmer Ave. on the following dates: April 22 and 23; May 27 and 28; June 24 and 25; July 22 and 23; Sept. 23 and 24, and Oct. 21 and 22. Cost for both days is $20.00 for a 20’x20′ space. Bald Eagle Valley Community U.M. Church will hold a dine-in spaghetti dinner on Sunday, April 24. The cost is $10 per person (kids under 5 are free) and you have your choice between two dinner times — 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Live Nativity. The Back Porch String Band will host their Country Jam on Sunday, April 24, at the Howard fire hall. The jam session will run from 2-6 p.m. A donation basket is passed with the proceeds to benefit the fire company. Those attending should bring a covered dish or snack to share during the afternoon. Howard Community Yard Sale will be on May 6 and May 7. This yard sale is always held the first full weekend (Friday and Saturday) in May.

Twinkle Toes Dance Group will be holding a Cash and Gift Card Bingo on May 7 at 70 Woodward Ave., in Lock Haven. Doors open at 11 a.m. and Bingo starts at 1 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Call Karen at 814-571-3984 for tickets.
