LOCK HAVEN — On Saturday, State Rep. Brian Sims (D-Philadelphia) spent a few hours chatting with local citizens, at Avenue 209 in Lock Haven. Sims is running for the Lieutenant Governor’s seat in the Primary on May 17. He has visited all 67 Pennsylvania counties and often camped along the way.

In speaking about his campaign, he explained that the Lieutenant Governor has three duties:

— Preside over the PA Senate and casts tie-breaking votes when necessary.

— Chair the board of pardons. In this role, the LG has to review criminal cases and to recommend clemencies to the governor. Sims said he is ready to step into this position as an experienced attorney who actively defended civil rights, equality issues, disability issues, and environmental issues.

— Chair the Emergency Management Council. In this role, the LG convenes experts to address the crisis at hand. After 10 years in the house, Sims said he has made many connections and is well aware of emergency procedures.

Sims feels that people across the Commonwealth, and the nation, want their government to show up, to listen, and to fight for them. He said he is now and will continue to fight for equality and continue working to reform the criminal justice system and protect the environment.

In closing, he emphasized the importance of the rural vote.
