BEECH CREEK — These lovely ladies are the Red Hat Rockers, who attended the Howard Area Lions Bingo last month for their monthly meeting. The group meets once a month, usually on the fourth Thursday, at restaurants, churches, social events, the movies or at member’s homes to enjoy fun, games and fellowship.

According to Dora Lea Watson, the current Red Hat Queen, she and Amy Barnes decided on the Howard Lions Bingo as their fun night out and to support the Lions Club’s fundraising efforts.

The Red Hat Rockers currently have 18 sisters in their group, most from the Howard and Beech Creek area. However, they do have members all the way from Bellefonte and Jersey Shore.

Each month, two sisters are selected to plan the activities for the next month’s meeting. Each member pays her own way and expects to have a good time during her evening out with her Red Hat sisters.

All of the sisters in the group are over the age of 50 who wear red hats to celebrate. Membership is by invitation only.

The local ladies who are members of the Red Hat Rockers have been meeting together for about 15 years now.

The Red Hat Society is a unique international playgroup for women that promotes passion of fun, friendship, fitness, the freedom to express themselves in positive ways, and a dedication to the fulfillment of lifelong dreams, gained all through the power of fun.
