Construction to begin at Piper-Harmon Playground; Facility to be closed during upgrades

LOCK HAVEN — Construction to improve Piper-Harmon Playground will begin this week.

According to a release from the city of Lock Haven, this means the playground will be closed during the construction.

“Construction will start this week and last for approximately two months. The playground will be closed for the length of construction to ensure the safety of children and construction workers,” a release from the city said. “We apologize for any inconvenience of closing the playground over the summer.

The improvement project will include the replacement of both swing sets, installation of rubber fall surface under all equipment, installation of new benches, replacement of the surrounding fence, pavilion and storage shed and reconfiguring the parking lot. The lot will become one-way with a new entrance off Race Street and an exit onto Sherman Street.

“The existing two play structures will stay as part of this project because they are in good condition,” the release said. “The new rubber surface is able to be poured around the structures without removing them.”

This improvement project is funded through 2018 and 2019 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funded.

Interested individuals can find information on the city’s CivilSpace page (https://lockhavenpa.civilspace.io/en) and sign up for project notifications to be sent directly to their email.
