LOCKPORT — Work on another jewel to the “riverscape” is underway as crews began to clear trees and vegetation along the bank of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River at Riverview Park in Woodward Township. It is in preparation for building a walkway along the water to connect the park to the Jay Street-Veterans Memorial Bridge and thus to the levee Riverwalk in the city. Years in the making, the $7.5 million investment has one lane of Farrandsville Road closed during working hours. The price tag includes utility relocation, drainage improvements, piping and inlets, construction of a retaining wall, sidewalks, curbing, ornamental light poles, guide rail, paving, pavement markings and miscellaneous items. Once complete, pedestrians will enjoy safer access to Riverview Park from the Veteran’s Bridge and motorists will benefit from safety and drainage upgrades. Clearwater Construction, Inc. of Mercer, is contractor for the job, which will carry into 2024.
