HARRISBURG — Much like January brings a new year, the Country Twirlers square dancers dance at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, bringing home top honors.

Four of these dancers are from the immediate area.

They include Sydney Parr, 12, who was competing for the first time; Bill and Sharon Wagner, who were competing for 17 years; and Marilyn McClellan.

Some of the area dancers have been dancing at the annual Harrisburg agricultural exposition since the 1970s.

This year 25 area dancers competed with several hundred Pennsylvania dancers for blue ribbons.

The fun, exercise, sociability and seeing acquaintances seen only once each year are part of the annual tradition. It’s looked upon as a highlight of the year for many.

Three of the area dancers competed for their first time.

This year on Monday, Jan. 6, again saw all the area dancers returning home with prized blue ribbons.
