Clinton County Genealogical Society to hold meeting tomorrow
The Clinton County Genealogical Society (CCGS) will meet at the Heisey Museum’s Steve Poorman Annex Building, 352 E. Water St., Lock Haven, on March 11 at 7 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Guest speaker, Lake Grabosky, North Central Regional Science Coordinator of The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) and a Tree Improvement Specialist with Penn State University, will give a PowerPoint presentation, “Learn about the History of the American chestnut; its roots in Castanea; and how you can help restore the American chestnut.”
Grabosky’s presentation will focus on a general introduction to chestnuts as a genus, followed by a focus on the American chestnut species. He will discuss the uniqueness of the chestnut tree in comparison to other tree species, as well as their help in shaping the local history of Castanea.
Diving deeper, he will look at the American chestnut; its history, its decline and a summary of TACF restoration efforts. He will conclude by offering practical ways that we all can be involved in the restoration process and field questions from the audience.
The CCGS membership meeting will immediately follow Grabosky’s presentation. Membership in the Clinton County Genealogical Society is open to anyone seeking to learn more about their ancestors.
