Howard Happenings
CEMETERY MEETINGS & CLEANUPS
Jacksonville Cemetery cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, March 8, beginning at 9 a.m. Weather permitting, volunteers are asked to come to help with clearing the grave sites of decorations. Anyone having decorations on the graves that you want to save will need to retrieve those decorations quickly. The annual meeting of Schenck’s Cemetery Association will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m., in the Howard United Methodist Church. All lot owners and those interested in the wellbeing of the cemetery are encouraged to attend.
The cemetery will be cleaned in early April. If you have decorations on the gravesites that you want to save you should remove them before April 6. (Otherwise they will be taken off and discarded as trash.)
For more info about Schenck’s Cemetery please feel free to contact Association President Barb Elling at 570-748-8631.
SPRING AHEAD
In observance of Daylight Savings, don’t forget to “spring” your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed on Saturday night. It’s also a great time to change the battery in your smoke detector and test it to be certain it’s working correctly.
TAX BILLS
Centre County property tax bills were mailed out earlier this week. The bills now have a new look, so if anyone is confused about the new format please feel free to contact your property tax collector.
Property owners who have an escrow account to pay their tax bills set up through their mortgage will need to make sure that the tax bill gets forwarded to their mortgagee for paying, or return it to the tax collector along with the mortgagee’s name and mailing address so that the tax collector can forward the bill to your escrow company.
It’s important that you make sure that the escrow company gets the tax bill so that they can pay it to get the discounted price offered.

WINTER FESTIVAL
Howard Cub Scouts and Scout Troop 353 will be holding their annual Winter Festival tomorrow, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bad weather date of March 15 has been scheduled in case it’s needed.
This Winter Festival has tons of fun for the whole family. There are about 50 craft and food vendors coming this year.
There are about 35 cub and boy scouts in Troop 353 this year so there will be lots of cakes for the Father/Scout Cake Bake. Always a big hit at the festival, this year the cake auction will begin at 5 p.m. Bring your wallet (or check book) and bid, bid, bid!
We’d like to take a moment to express our sincere sympathy to Al Hamilton’s family. Al was the cake auctioneer in prior years, but unfortunately Al passed away recently. Al was a huge supporter of the Howard Troop and a friend to many.
This year the collectable cookie tin features a beautiful photo of the Northern Lights over Bald Eagle State Park that was taken by Bill Fatula. Thank you Bill for sharing the photo! The tins are filled with Party Mix and cost $20 each. Reserve yours by calling Patti at 814-625-2182. They’ll be available for pickup at the festival while supplies last!
There will be lots of outdoor fun for the kiddos to enjoy as well as adults.
The Mennonite Choir will be here to sing as well.
This is an outdoor event so dress for the weather and come support Troop 353.
LOST COAT
Brenda Frazier is missing her coat and would like to have it returned to her.
The coat went missing at the Howard Area Lions Sweetheart Dinner on Feb. 15.

If you have Brenda’s coat please call her at 570-660-5283 to arrange a coat swap.
