On April 11, Exotic Edventures came to the school to put on an interactive educational program for the students and families.

“We had four shows in the afternoon for our kindergarten through sixth graders. Then at 4 p.m. we opened the doors to our Renovo families for our Title I Family Engagement Night,” said Rachel Casper, an interventionist at the elementary school. “We had around 200 people show up!”

The program was brought to the school through Title I funding and, with the remaining funds, Casper said she purchased a variety of books about turtles, snakes, reptiles, chameleons and more for students to choose from leading up to the event.

“Students picked a book and were given supplies to make a craft with their family,” she said. “The week leading up to the event students brought in their finished crafts.”

All crafts were on display the night Exotic Edventures came to the school.

Casper offered kudos to Exotic Edventures owner and operator, Holly Rennell.

“(She) did an outstanding job providing detailed information about animals,” she said.

Rennell brought along with her a Woma python, boa constrictor, tarantula, parrot, tortoise, gecko, large blue-tongued skink, leopard gecko and a fluffy bunny.

Casper said the bunny, named Ice Man, was a crowd favorite.

Rennell shared stories of how she rescued the animals along with facts.

“During the family program, she showed the audience an animal and talked about it for a few minutes. Then she called up some audience members to get a closer look and touch the animal,” Casper said. “During our school assemblies, each student had the opportunity to touch the animal. It was an amazing and very interactive educational program.”
