State College Food Bank celebrates one-year anniversary
STATE COLLEGE — The State College Food Bank is proud to announce a special Open House event marking the one-year anniversary of the opening of its new facility and pantry. To celebrate this milestone, the Food Bank will also unveil a newly commissioned donor wall honoring those who made the expansion possible through their generous contributions to the Fighting Hunger, Feeding Community, Building Hope capital campaign.
The Open House will take place April 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Food Bank’s new location, 169 Gerald St., State College. The public is warmly invited to attend, tour the facility and join in the celebration.
The highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the donor wall, a meaningful tribute designed by local artist, Aimee Parmelee, of Ginger Muse Art. This unique installation was brought to life through a collaboration with another valued community nonprofit, The Rivet at Discovery Space, which generously donated time and access to its laser cutter to help complete the project.
“Creating this piece was incredibly meaningful,” said Aimee Parmelee, owner of Ginger Muse Art. “Being a longtime supporter of the Food Bank and the way it brings our community together to ensure food is accessible for all, I was honored when I was asked to create a visual reflection that honors their values, which I experienced as dignity and human-kindness for all.
Michele Crowl, Executive Director of Discovery Space, added, “At Discovery Space, we’re proud to support community partners like the State College Food Bank. Through The Rivet, we were excited to contribute to this beautiful and important project. Collaborations like this show how connected and supportive our local nonprofits can be.”
“We are thrilled to celebrate this important anniversary and to honor the donors whose generosity helped make our new building a reality–and mortgage-free,” said Allayn Beck, Executive Director of the State College Food Bank. “This wall is a permanent expression of our gratitude and a symbol of the community’s commitment to addressing hunger with dignity and hope.”
The State College Food Bank provides critical support to thousands of individuals and families each year, and this new facility has allowed for expanded services, improved accessibility and a more welcoming environment for all clients.
